I am interested in finding research and information to become a better parent in raising my teenagers. I had a responsible childhood as my mother was always ill. I would like to make sure that I raise my daughters the best way I can without a doubt or questioning my skills. I would like my children to grow up knowing how much I loved them very much and always wanted the best for them. More less giving and nurturing them in ways my mother couldn't. Although she tried her best. I feel I was missing the "role model" as a great mother. I would like to always find ways to improve my skills.

Thank you.

Being able to weather any of the dramas that raising a child often brings is a hard thing to do. If a single parent has a strong support system - their parents, friends, colleagues, other parents (single or not) - then this makes it much easier to get through every day. For me, the hardest times were when my little one was just starting to develop his own personality, and started realising that he can control his environment. Then, it was just one long fight. Now, he still wants to make the decisions, but it is easier to get him to listen, and sometimes to actually do what I say. Facing these little dramas alone is hard - but having help from my parents and friends is a blessing.

I understand why single parents might need to be taught these lessons/skills - I've got a 2 year old son, who tries my patience every single day. But is there also this kind of training for those parents who are partnered? I've seen some of these parents be just as short with their children, just as angry or do the wrong thing, as a single parent might do. It can actually sometimes be worse, because then the partners start to fight with each other, if one does not agree with the other's handling of the situation. And then of course, the poor children sit in the middle trying to figure out what is going on, and learning the completely wrong way to handle conflict or emotional incidents.
